The smell in the air. The bite in the wind. The warm mug-full of steaming hot chocolate. Starbucks got it right. The Pumpkin Spice Latte craze is legitimate AND delicious. As I sit at my desk this time of year and post list after list about why fall is the greatest time of year, I get really hungry. I think food is the main reason why I love fall SO much. Comfort food. Tailgate food. Pumpkin flavored food. It just can’t be beat! This is an old recipe, written on an old note card and is one that Menu Maker feels is worth sharing:

Pumpkin Bread with Chocolate Chips:

½ cup melted butter
1 cup puréed pumpkin
½ cup chopped dates
½ cup chocolate chips
2 eggs
½ cup water
½ cup chopped nuts
1 ½ cups sugar
1 tsp baking powder
¼ tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp cloves
½ tsp ginger
½ tsp nutmeg
¼ tsp salt
1 ¾ cups flour

Blend the Shortening, pumpkin, dates, chocolate chips, eggs and nuts together. In a separate bowl, sift the remaining ingredients. Once sifted, slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Pour into a greased 9×5” loaf pan. Bake at 350 for 90 minutes. Cool 1 hour before removing from the pan.

Bon Appetit and Happy Fall!
